Victor/Victoria is one of my all-time favourite movies and I have wanted to make this costume for ages, and was impatiently waiting for 1982 to be eligible for 'historical' at the Costume-Con historical masquerade. I managed to run across the original dress on display in a museum exhibit, so I was fortunate enough to be able to see it up close and take photos. I was also able to contact the costume house that owns the dress and get photos of the inside! Sadly the original headpiece seems to have been lost, so I had to make some guesses about that one.
As with the original costume, mine is built on a stretch leotard with rows of very long fringe and long strings of rhinestone banding. The bodice inset is embroidered with beads and rhinestones.
The headpiece is built on a Fosshape base covered in spandex and rhinestone banding. The top fan is built using a ballet crown technique (wire run inside metallic cording, with rhinestone cup chain wire-wrapped onto it).
Awards won: Costume-Con 39 Historical Masquerade
