Rose Queen
Made for the Single Pattern Contest at Costume-Con 37. In this contest the con chooses a few commercial patterns and then contestants can make up the patterns however they like. I decided to lean into the Evil Queen style of the original pattern, but with flowers.
The skirt is a rose-patterned lace laboriously appliquéd onto organza, as the lace wasn't wide enough for the full length of the skirt. I stitched around all the motifs and then cut the excess lace mesh away using tiny scissors.
The bodice is many layers of organza and lace layered for depth, with leather branches appliquéd on top. I then accented the thorns with gold paint and added beetle-wing pieces. The feather collar snaps onto the bodice in 3 places.
The headpiece is a wire frame covered in foam clay; it was my first time using that material and I loved it.
