I've loved King Ghidorah for years. He's a giant gold dragon, what's not to love?
I wanted to turn him into some kind of fancy dress, so when the Cosplay Met Gala was announced I had my motivation.
Dress: The bodice is based on an 18th century court bodice, adapted for a front opening with a stomacher that snaps over the lacing. I made all the scales using metal filigree sewn onto painted fabric, and layered two fabrics together for the skirt, sewing along the scale lines to create a cutout effect.
Hip ornaments: These were sculpted in Monster Clay, cast in silicone, then cast in flexible resin and gold-leafed. The stomacher ornaments were cast in flexible resin from purchased molds.
Crown: The dragon heads were sculpted in Worbla's Red Art and I love them.
Shoes: Built on platform wedges, built up with foam and detailed with foam clay and Worbla.
Claws: Handmade from metal filigree.
Wings: I built a frame out of 2mm craft fom with wire inside, glued 3 layers of organza and metallic mesh to the foam, then sculpted the wing scales on top using foam clay.
Awards Won: Best in Show - Cosplay Central 2020 Online
